I live about a 5 minute walk from the Chinese Garden of Friendship. Even though we live so close the last time I actually went inside was 20 years ago for a school excursion (which makes me old...). The gardens are a pretty neat little oasis in the middle of the city. You almost forget where you are until you look up and see the buildings surrounding you.

It was my niece's 6th birthday this weekend.
So I made marshmallow men!
And star shaped fairy-bread
We gave her a Hello Kitty bumble bee...
And crayons and colouring books!

I remember when she was a baby. The older I get the faster time flies...

This week I was fortunate to be included as Daily Photo for Yen Magazine. This is the image they selected. It's titled Cloud because it reminds me of the cloud bursting in Men Who Stare at Goats.
It is part of a series of three I took in the rooftop garden of my apartment building. We'll be moving soon so I won't get to enjoy this view forever.

Check out Yen Magazine.

mountain high...

So we finally got away to the Blue Moutains this week staying at a lovely cottage in Wentworth Falls. It was such a flash back to when we used to be able to visit several times a year. I feel like I half grew up in the mountains and I didn't realise how much I missed being away the last few years. There have been quite a few changes (especially to the roads- what an exercise in patience...) but it still feels like a home away from home. I'm a bit of a mountain girl at heart and love it even more now Leura Garage is serving some seriously good cocktails. Vesper Martini anyone?

Llama or Alpaca? You win a hug.

Crazy city people dining outside. It was so cold they gave us blankets...

I love a B&B that provides Magnums. Heart you Jim & Toshi!

Snapped this right before it gave me a good stare down with fark off eyes.
We wanted to stay but alas back to reality... At least on the way home we were prepared to battle the unending 40kmph roadwork zones with an old fashioned chocolate milkshake and freshly baked pretzels from Conditorei Patisserie Schwarz. It's the little things. xx

hols... familiar...

So the hubby finally has a holiday break after 90 hour weeks for months. We were meant to be going to Tokyo however life has decided to get in the way and our usual caution to the wind attitude has been scaled back. Firstly we need a new laptop and secondly we are desperately trying to buy an apartment before January 2012 (thanks Barry...). So the overseas holiday is on hold making way for the holiday at home! We are fortunate to live in the city so we have Sydney at our fingertips. There's going to be a lot of sleeping in, eating and too much drinking. How will this differ from the norm I hear my friends say? Well, we are also playing tourist in our own city trying new bars and restaurants, taking some daytrips, spending some time in the Blue Mountains and we might even make a side trip to Melbourne if it says something to impress me. We are also allowing ourselves a small spending spree budget to cover new clothes, extra booze, rugs and cheese :)

Happy hols to us!

To kick it all off Bloodwood-

So I'm heading back to school to study Interior Design. I am super nervous because I haven't studied since 2003 and it is a bit of a departure from the direction I've been heading. It feels like the right decision though. I love interiors and I love decorating. I find the whole process very calming. Visiting Koskela in Surry Hills is like meditating for me. I'm still working on my writing and hoping to do a photography course at ACP soon. I also have a big craft project I'm setting up to get some extra income but that is another story...
